Cafeteria

Just like our school staff, our cafeteria staff goes above and beyond in delivering hot and healthy meals for our hungry Crusaders.

If you have any questions, please contact our cafeteria manager, Jessica Andrews, Jandrews@sthenrynky.com or call 859-342-2551, ext. 309.

Wellness Policy

The Diocese of Covington and St. Henry Catholic School are committed to providing nutritious meals in our schools. Healthy, well-nourished students learn better, are more attentive, and cause fewer discipline problems. While we realize that schools cannot be expected to shoulder the burden or reversing the trend in childhood obesity on their own, we must do our part to provide policy and environmental changes that support healthier choices for both students and staff. Schools are, after all, the place where youth spend a substantial portion of their time. And, given the opportunity, school staff can model healthier lifestyle choices to the students. Wellness Policies make sense, not only for now but also for the future of our children.

The Diocese of Covington Local Wellness Policy for Schools is available annually and can be found here.

Meal Accommodations

If your student/s have dietary restrictions (i.e., no peanut butter, no strawberries, etc.), the Eating and Feeding Evaluation form must be completed and signed by a physician. If you have any additional questions to the cafeteria manager.

Lunch Costs

For the 2023-2024 school year, the cost of a student lunch is $3.15; this is regulated at a state level. The cost of an adult meal is $5.00. Please discuss with your student/s that they must take at least three, but can be as many as five, items in the five food groups (protein, grain, fruit, vegetable, dairy) on their lunch tray and one of them has to be a fruit or vegetable. If a student has more than five items, they will be charged for the extra.

Extras & Ice Cream Fridays
In order to purchase any extras during the week or ice cream on Fridays, students must have money in their account or cash in hand. Extras cannot be charged. Students may not receive any extra grains, such as French fries, mashed potatoes, pancakes, etc. However, if a student purchases a complete second lunch, they can receive everything. Students may also purchase just an extra entrée, the main non-grain protein for the meal. This is typically the main item (hamburger, chicken tender, etc.); however, on days when grains are served as the main entrée, (pancakes, mini cinnamon rolls, mini French Toast, etc.), the entrée would be the protein item (sausage, scrambled eggs).

Students paying cash for extras will not be given change; any amount owed back will be put into their MySchoolBucks account. Parents/guardians should discuss with their student/s whether or not they are permitted to purchase extras.

Free and reduced lunches are available to those families that qualify. Please be assured that information regarding free and reduced lunches is strictly confidential. Families may apply for free/reduced lunch at any time during the school year. To determine if you qualify, please follow the directions from the Diocese of Covington.

Lunch Payments

Cash or check payments can be turned into the school office in an envelope marked “Cafeteria.” Checks should be made payable to St. Henry Catholic School, with the student/s name/s on the memo line. When sending in cash, please include the student/s name/s on the envelope. If you have more than one child at St. Henry, please let us know how you would like the money distributed.

Payments can be made online: https://www.myschoolbucks.com

Charge Policy

Charges are for emergency use only. Students who have forgotten or lost their lunch money may charge a lunch in the cafeteria. Charges may not exceed $20. If your student/s account has more than $20 owed, they will receive a packed lunch consisting of a cheese sandwich and milk. Your student/s will receive their lunch from the office. We take this extra step so that your student/s aren’t embarrassed due to lack of funds. The Diocese of Covington 2023-2024 charge policy can be found here.

Check Policy

The School Lunch Program gladly accepts checks as payment for student meal accounts. Check payments that are returned for any reason (including, but not limited to, non-sufficient funds, stop payment requests or a closed account) will result in:

    • A $25.00 returned check fee
    • You will receive a certified letter and email regarding your check payment with instruction for repayment
    • May result in the referral of the debt to the Kenton County Attorney’s office for collection
    • May result in the suspension of the payer’s ability to submit future payments by person check

For questions regarding this procedure or to make arrangements to resolve a returned payment, please contact Laura Hatfield, 859-392-1500 or email lhatfield@covdio.org
